Read on to discover the story of Sandra and her classmates receiving brand-new school kits.
1200 children benefiting from school kit donation
I cannot believe I have brand new shoes, books and pencils. Mama will not need to buy a new school uniform for me! I’m so happy all I want to do is just dance
11 years old Sandra beamed as she hugged her new set of school supplies she received from her teachers.
Sandra is one of about 92 children who attend Wasase MA primary school, located in the Bekwai Municipality in Ghana’s Ashanti region. The Wawase community of about 1250 people are predominantly cocoa farmers. Both men and women spend a greater part of their day on their cocoa farms but they are keen on giving education to their children whom they believe are their future.
However going to school in Wawase MA Primary did not use to be fun for children like Sandra, her friends and their teachers as they had very few school supplies to facilitate effective teaching and learning. Through a partnership with Callebaut, Cacao Barry, Mona Lisa and Carma brands, a distribution of school kits was organized. The kits included brand-new shoes, books, book bags, pencils, pens, books and new school uniforms.
Receiving the items, the headmaster of the school, Abraham Boamah and the Circuit Education Supervisor Berla Ayibglo expressed their gratitude for the support which they believed would go a long way to facilitate effective teaching and learning in the community.
An estimated 1200 children benefited from the school kit donation in communities where the Cocoa Horizons Foundation is active.
