The consumer wants it specially made for him
Ever demanding consumers who treat the products they buy as an extension of their personality, are on the hunt for products that are “specially made for them”. Personalization is one of the major consumer growth drivers.
Many industries are fully into mass personalization
Already years ago the car industry chose the route of personalization. Although the chances to find something that suits exactly your needs in the fashion industry are massive, some brands take it even a step further allowing you to exactly design your shoes, definitely at a premium.
The food industry has embraced personalization too
Some chocolate brands have experienced successfully with personalization. They offer online services allowing you to make your own tablet or jar. This is about personalizing the pack, not so much about personalizing the content itself. Some recent technological breakthrough innovations are now allowing to mass-personalize chocolates, bakes and ice cream with real chocolate.
Barry Callebaut takes chocolate personalization to the next level
Barry Callebaut has developed a real chocolate solution to print with a food 2D+ printer, at industrial speed, onto foods like chocolates, bakes and ice cream. We have created this solution in collaboration with Foodjet. The printer, aka Lisa is connected to a computer, the products Lisa makes are A(rtificial) I(ntelligence).
Foodjet, aka Lisa vs. Martin or Speed vs. Artistic touch
The printers can handle milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, as well as caramel chocolate. Several printers could be combined to increase speed and capacity or to apply different chocolate colors.
Ultimate flexibility and with real chocolate
You can upload any design into the AI of Foodjet, a laptop. The AI will tell the printer exactly what to do and the design is then applied onto the food. It is that simple.
Since any design can be made it could be used for 1-to-1 personalization, like names for birthdays or messages for special moments (marriages, openings…). But you can also use the system for 1-to- many solutions like seasonal decorations where the consumer is constantly looking for something new without you having to invest in molds, reducing waste, no contamination and without changeover time.
Performance
The resolution that can be achieved is 1 mm accuracy at a speed of 15-20 meter per minute.
