ProTerra non-GMO certified soy products tackle key agricultural issues, such as environmental impact, safe labor conditions, forced labor, traceability to plantation level, land use change and biodiversity loss. Additionally, issues specific to soy farming in Brazil are addressed, such as the displacement of indigenous populations due to the expansion of soy plantations.
Through publication of a smallholder standard, ProTerra furthermore addresses the specific needs of soy cultivation in other countries, such as India.
We have signed the statement of support for the Cerrado Manifesto, to preserve valuable ecosystems in Brazil, and we are working with our suppliers on establishing traceability in our soy supply chain.
We are supporting innovative approaches to deliver deforestation-free soy to our dairy supply chains, and implement new financial mechanisms to eliminate deforestation from soy in Brazil. We are working with SAI’s Dairy Working Group to develop a deforestation free soy feed supply chain from Brazil to Europe within our dairy supply.
While the supply of certified soy is plentiful, there is a lack of consumer awareness regarding the issues impacting conventional soy production and the benefits of sustainable soy.
