The 3 types of nutrition bars
These days we find nutrition bars in all types of formats and flavors. However, when we look carefully these can be categorized in 3 main categories, namely: Cereal bars, Fruit&nut bars, and Protein bars.
- Cereal bars
Cereal or granola based, and sometimes fortified. These bars are positioned as your morning bowl of muesli in an on-the-go format. - Fruit&nut bars
Dried fruits based (for example date paste) or nuts based (often almonds and peanuts). These bars are usually positioned as indulgent yet nutritious snacks. - Protein bars
Protein mass-based (for example whey powder or flax seeds), and these bars are usually positioned for consumption before or after sports.
Making nutrition bars at home!
Surprisingly, an oven is not even required when making nutrition bars. With the exception of flapjacks and some biscuit-style baked bars, most of the nutrition bars do not involve any baking step!
